Aside from the consistent offering of all elementary- and intermediate-level language courses (numbered 101 through 104) every year (and intensive versions of these courses during the summer, as well), here are some general patterns that the department tries to observe regarding course rotations.

Language courses

  • GR 505, Elementary Greek for Graduate Students 1: every fall
  • GR 506, Elementary Greek for Graduate Students 2: every spring
  • GR 411/511, Greek Prose Composition: every spring
  • LAT 501, Elementary Latin for Graduate Students 1: every fall
  • LAT 502, Elementary Latin for Graduate Students 2: every spring
  • LAT 411/511, Latin Prose Composition: every fall
  • At least one course at the 500 level on a classical Greek author or genre: every semester
  • At least one course at the 500 level on a classical Latin author or genre: every semester
  • One "patristic seminar" on a late antique or Christian Greek author for graduate students: every year
  • One "patristic seminar" on a late antique or Christian Latin author for graduate students: every year
  • At least one course in medieval Latin or Latin palaeography: every year

Non-language courses

  • CLAS 105-106, Reading the Greeks and Reading the Romans, every year
  • CLAS 205-206, History of Greece and History of Rome: every other year
  • CLAS 211, Greek and Roman Mythology: every semester
  • CLAS 251, The Ancient World in Cinema: every semester
  • Either CLAS 317, Greek Art and Architecture, or CLAS 318, Roman Art and Architecture: every year (alternating years between the two courses)
  • At least one CLAS course as an undergraduate elective: every year
